You must ask management for union time and you decide how long it will take. If management tells you that you only have a limited amount of time to investigate, file another grievance on the violation of Article 17.3. Be sure to clock to Union time to investigate alleged violation(s) and take the time to investigate. New grievance numbers are issued though this website. Properly fill out your grievance form, PS Form 8190, completely. Get written statements of anything that you are told. If the witness does not wish to give you a written statement, you write down what is said and have them sign that it is correct. When time is taken the write a statement it has more creditably than words alone. Take the time to read all Manuals and Handbooks including the JCAM, National Agreement, and Local Agreement. You never know what you may find.
Always remember you are the embodiment of the Union, your conduct casts the reflection the others will see. Don’t let the attitudes of others dictate your actions. If you’re upset, stay calm and maintain your composure. Some Supervisors and Managers would like nothing better than to upset you to make matters worse. You must maintain your credibility at all times this will command respect from your peers and management.
But rememeber you are not alone, you have brothers and sisters that have been where you are or are also going though this same hell and it is upon these that you can make your stand.
